Paul deLay, 1952-2007

Farewell.

Portland bluesman Paul deLay died March 7. He was 55. deLay led a hard knock life. He didn't play "the blooze"; he was the real deal. He's heard here on his 1999 album deLay Does Chicago. This original composition showcases his expressive voice and remarkable skill on harmonica.

I am truly saddened by the news of Paul deLay's passing. Many, many years ago, my friend Mark DuFresne, former lead singer of Roomful Of Blues, hipped me to Paul. The guy was everything that most blues pretenders wish for. He was blues royalty of the rarest sort. RIP Paul deLay.
