Although I write extensively about music I've never been particularly interested in hanging out with musicians. Backstage passes go unused and I involuntarily roll my eyes when I hear the phrase "after party." It's especially true of Kansas City's hip hop artists. I love the music but I don't even pretend to do the handshakes or speak the jargon. Sliccs Gotcha was different. The rapper had a broader worldview than his recordings might indicate. On Prince of Whales, Sliccs raps about dealing drugs, exacting revenge on his rivals and eluding the authorities. Yet he didn't come across as a gangster when I spent time with him. Sliccs struck me as gentle, kind and worldly. He was murdered February 12. Here's chatter at Crime Scene KC.

This is terrible news about Sliccs. He was a good guy. He will definitely be missed. Such a shame and a loss... I don't really know what to say.

Haha. Yes. And I have a very fond and vivid memory of having lunch at Sharp's with him and the Lifted Logic guys: Four nerdy whiteboys and this garrulous, bejeweled-toothed gangsta among the old people.
This is awful!!! He did'nt deserve this. Sliccs was a good guy with a warm BIG heart. His music did'nt reflect who he was b/c he was nothing like that. I don't understand why they did this. He will definitely be missed!! And I will continue to keep his family in prayer!!
Sliccs kids and my kids went to the same scool he was a good young father i remeber we all went on a pumkin patch ride together on a field trip i feel so sorry for his children Rest In Peace 1 love

This is unbearable. Sliccs was a man with lyrics, a big heart, and a lovin smile. I pray for his kids and his family. Sliccs u are sadly missed. we love u dude! The Sliccs I knew was a man of Principle, and you can't take Principles out of the Game. Regardless of what you do, the fact still remains that Principles are guideposts for Truth; you can't kill it, you can't shoot it or stab it... all you can do is deal with YOURSELF and try to live w/ Principles like my man did
