John Hiatt- I Don't Even Try

The song quit trying.

Babysitters in Kansas City cleaned up last night. John Hiatt was headlining at the VooDoo Lounge in Harrah’s Casino and it felt like half of suburbia was there to welcome him. The North Mississippi Allstars opened the show with a polite, technically-proficient but charisma-free set. Those same qualities made them a perfect backing band for Hiatt. My date adores Hiatt, and to be fair, he’s a great performer. While I respect him, Hiatt's music ceased to speak directly to me after Stolen Moments. So here’s a wobbly Riding With the King song from a live promotional 1993 release.

How many box like Volvo wagons were in the parking lot?

I pretty much agree that Stolen Moments was his last truly great record, but the few songs from his latest I've heard I like.

One of these evenings I'm gonna have enuff pennies saved and go out and see somebody worth my time.

M&S- I'm saving my pennies for Los Lobos next week. $25.00 at the door. Volvos? Yes. And I don't think the VooDoo's bar receipts were very good, either, although it sounds like Yurodivy might have done his part.
